THIRD PROJECT / ONE ACTIVITY
USE OF VOICETHREAD IN SOCIAL STUDIES
April 2010
Description
In the following presentation, you will see how VoiceThread has been used to encourage students to learn more about three American symbols: the American flag, the statue of Liberty, and the American eagle. Students learnt about these symbols during a previous lesson, and this activity serves as a reinforcement. For each picture, teacher introduces the symbol, and students take turn adding their comments through voice or text. This activity takes place over several days.
Standards Addressed Maryland Technology Literacy Standards for Students
III – Technology for Learning and Collaboration: Use a variety of technologies for learning and collaboration
A. Learning
1. Use technology tools, including software and hardware, from a range of teacher-selected options to learn new content or reinforce skills Maryland Technology Standards for TeachersIV – Integrating Technology into the Curriculum and Instruction: Design, implement, and assess learning experiences that incorporate use of technology in a curriculum-related instructional activity to support understanding, inquiry, problem-solving, communication and/or collaboration
5. Select and use appropriate technology to support content-specific student-learning outcomes
Reflection
I found that VoiceThread is pretty challenging to use for first-graders, and time-consuming for a whole-class lesson. However, I did like the fact that everyone was able to collaborate to the same project at once.
